Brad Paisley

On Friday Sept. 10th we got free tickets to see Brad Paisley.  We were told the concert started at 4:00pm so we headed over to Ridgefield, WA. to the Clark County Amphitheater to enjoy the concert.  When we got there we were told that the outside concert started at 4:30 and the inside concert started at 7:30.  So we hung out and listened to the music and played with the grandchildren till we could get in our seats.  I don't remember all the names of the bands out side but the were pretty good.  When the concert started inside it started with Jason Moore, I am not as familiar with him but I like his music.  Jason played for about 1/2 hour.

Then Darius Rucker came on stage an played for about 45 minutes.  I love his music.  This is not a very good picture but it is about as good as I could get.  He moved around a lot and most of my pics of him are blurry.  Great performer and he had a video with the words to one of his songs so we could sing along.












So then Brad Paisley came out, or should I say swam out.  This is his H20 tour and his giant video screen had a giant swimming pool on it and it looked like he was swimming with his Guitar on his back and then they played the music from Jaws, so then he climbed up the pool ladder to get out of the pool.  It was AWESOME!!!  We first saw Brad when we won tickets to the Oregon Jamboree in 2005?  I think.  Brad is from Oregon and it is fascinating to see how he has grown and I love to listen to all of his songs.  I don't think I have heard any of his that I don't like.

Brad said he used to be the one in the cheap seats at concerts and he knows how hard it is to see the performer so he walked right in front of us to a podium in the middle of the crowd which was 5 rows from where Dawn, Charlie and the grandkids were sitting.  They took this picture for me.













Zack was sitting between my friend Teri and Grandpa Steve.  He is so cute.  He loved the concert.  Jordan didn't want to go the the concert so I invited  Teri.  Can"t waste a free ticket.

We had Hailey sitting with us till the music started and  then she wanted to sit with mommy.  Her is Dawn when she came to get Hailey.  I couldn't hear what Teri said to her but it must have been funny.

Can you tell why she is so spoiled?  Just look at that face and try to say no.

Miss Mary was sitting with Mom and Dad, but from what I hear she didn't do much sitting.  She loves to dance and it doesn't matter what kind of music is playing.  I don't know what was going on when they took this picture but I LOVE it.

We didn't get home till about midnight and Zack and Hailey were both passed out in the back of the van.
We all enjoyed the concert and each others company.  I only took 92 pictures so I shouldn't have a problem with creating a scrapbook.

Update on my garden.

In early August we were surprised with an unexpected wind storm.  I just happened to look out the Kitchen window and saw my corn laying over.  We went out to try and save it but couldn't get anything to prop it up with.  When Charlie got home he helped Dawn prop it up and tied some rope around it and some stakes he put in the raised bed.  Well it didn't wilt or turn brown so I figured we wouldn't get much but we would let it grow if it would.  Dawn, Hailey and Mary helped me pick it last week and to our surprise we got 29 ears of corn.  Some were a little small but perfect for little hands to hold.

They were so sweet and yummy.

We also picked a few of our other vegetables while we were in the garden.




Bell Peppers, Acorn Squash, Lemon Cucumbers and Tomatoes.







I have been having trouble with my computer for the last week and could get it to open where I could get in to run a virus scan.  Finally it came up this morning and the first thing I did was run a scan.  It found 3 viruses, I thought I was pretty safe but I guess they can find they're way around the obstacles any way.  My computer screen is still messed up but at least I might be able to use it for a few days till My IT gets his rear home to fix it.  I sent him a text yesterday telling him that I needed his help when he got a chance and he replied Did you restart it?  So I  sent one back that said only about 150 times.  Of course he didn't respond to it or me since.  I guess that is better than what he usually responds with.  Buy a new one!  I think he forgets that I am a starving CTMH Consultant. lol.

New Techniques.

You all probably know by now that I am a technique junkie.  I love learning and sharing new techniques.  The first technique I learned is the Batik Technique.  Here you emboss and sponge and then remove the embossing.  If you want I can show you each step or you could sign up on my Meetup group and come on Wednesday evening, September 1st and I will show you in person.

I made this card for my friend Shannon, her birthday was on Friday.  I hope she likes the card.







The second technique I learned is called the Bandanna Technique.  In this technique you stamp and draw then sponge and paint.  Again if you want me to post complete instructions I will or you can come to my Meetup group and learn it in person.









I went to my friend Teri's house on Thursday and played until the weeee hours.  Oh what fun we had.  We didn't get much done but we had fun doing what we did work on.  We tried to play with her Cricut machine and the Cricut Design Studio but the computer couldn't find the Cricut.  We tried to show it that it was just across the room, but I think her computer needs glasses.

On Friday my Big Sister came to visit and brought her daughter and her 3 granddaughters.  We, all 12 of us, went to lunch and then we went to a garage sale by my house.  The Grand View Baptist Church always holds a parking lot garage sale in August. They allow you to set up your sale in their parking lot and sell your wares and they don't charge you for the space.  The whole parking lot is full of vendors and when we have had a space there we have always done very well.  We wanted to do it this year but too many things were going on and besides I wouldn't have been able to go to lunch with some of my favorite girls.  I really enjoyed my day with my Sister and Nieces.  Then of course it was Friday night date night.  Steve took me out to dinner and to see Nanny McPhee.  We went to the 9:20 pm showing and had the entire room to our selves.  When we got home the grandkids were in bed but Jordan was still awake.  He asked us what we saw, and I told him Nanny McPhee, but we didn't get to see much of it cause we were making out.  He said really Grandma how was it?  He just doesn't believe that we do that sort of thing any more.  So we played it up a little more, Steve said he put some pop corn kernels in his ear and that I licked them out.  So of course I had to add, you know how I love pop corn.  About that time Dawn and Charlie walk in with their friends, just as Jordan says Gross!!!  So then Jordan told them about the conversation.

Next weekend, September 5th, is our 29th Wedding Anniversary.  I can hardly believe we have been together that long.  I don't know what we are going to do to celebrate it, but I'm sure we will have fun, what ever we decide to do.

Last night was open crop and there were 3 of us who attended.  We had a great time visiting and sharing information.  Jean brought some of the collage art that she has made to share with us. Shannon worked on her scrapbook layout.  I finished altering a coffee sleeve that I started last weekend after Jean showed one that had been given to her.

The Pansy is made with SU's Butterfly punch, I punched 2 dark purple butterflies and 1 light purple butterfly from felt and cut 1 dark butterfly and the light butterfly in half then drew the lines and layered them 1/2 of the dark purple behind the full butterfly and the 1/2 light purple butterfly in front of the full dark butterfly. After the glue dried I put the star brad through the felt and the paper. I then added the 2 tone dragonfly that I die cut from felt also. On the other side I took a chipboard "J" and stamped a swirl in Staz-On black and then sponged Hydrangea ink on the letter then I spritzed it with a mixture of CTMH's Create a shade pearl paint and water, to create a shimmer effect then added it to the paper and then glued it all to the coffee sleeve. The scallop punch at the bottom is also a SU punch. The green paper is from the Veranda level 2 paper pack and the purple is from You Rock level 2 paper pack and I sponged the Hydrangea ink on it to blend with the felt colors.

Mary caught a fish!

Last Sunday the weather was very hot and My Daughter and SIL decided to go to the Canby pond and play in the water.  There was lots of people and some of their friends went with them.  Some of the kids noticed that there were fish in the pond and tried to catch them.  Well, all of a sudden Mary starts yelling I caught one, I caught one.  So Dawn looks over and sure enough Mary had caught about an 8" fish with her bare hands.  By the time Dawn and Charlie got over to her, she had squeezed the fish to death.  She said it kept wiggling and she diddn't want to drop it.

















































When Mary got home she came running in to show Grandpa and I what she caught.  She was so excited and so proud of herself.  Grandpa and I were getting ready to go out on a date, so he told Mary and her dad what they needed to do to dress the fish and get it ready to cook.  Dawn cooked it up and Mary took one bite and didn't like it.  She is so cute, especially  when she gets excited.

Yes we are going to scrapbook this one.

Magnolia Flower.

Here is a Magnolia flower I made using the SU Ornament punch.  My husband thinks it looks more like a water lilly.  What do you thin





I punched 4 New England Ivy Ornaments and 8 White Daisy Ornaments.  I sponged Creme Brulee around the edges and lightly in the centers of each petal.  I used a small Hibiscus punch to make the very center.  I punched 3 small Hibiscus from White Daisy CS and put them on the Creme Brulee ink pad then took them and brushed each petal up against the corner of New England Ivy ink pad just to get a little green on the edges of the tiny petals.  The first Hibiscus I curled slightly with a impresser on a piece of foam.  I took the other 2 Hibiscus and cut into the centers slightly then curled them with the large end on a stylus.  I then glued them with Liquid Glass and let them sit.  I took 3 of the White daisy ornaments and trimmed them down so they were more narrow and sponged the edges again.  Then I layered them in a circle, glued them with Liquid glass and let them dry.   I took the other 5 White Daisy ornaments and carefully layered them with the left edge under the first petal and the right edge over the next petal until they were in a circle.  I then glued them with Liquid Glass and let them dry. I then glued the layers together and let them sit overnight to dry.


Hint: Interlock the tops of the ornament together in the center.

Here is a Rose I made a while back with the same punch.
 
I punched 3 ornaments out of New England Ivy and took tiny notches out of the edges to make them look more like a rose leaf.  I drew the veins with the New England Ive marker then put the leaf on a piece of foam and ran the stylus over the veins, to give them more character.

My Computer has had a mind of it's own this last week, so I called my IT support (from his bedroom door) and said look you gotta fix this thing.  He said the same old thing, "Get a new computer!"  Then he decided to take a look and he changed some settings so hopefully it will it won't kick me out of the internet all the time.

Update on my garden.

I finally remembered to take my camera with me to the garden yesterday to pick our first batch of fresh peas.

This is affectionately called the Dinosaur Garden.  The fence in the back is 6 feet tall.  I planted as much as I could in each raised bed and it shows now.  In the bed next to the Corn and Peas is red and green cabbage, egg plant, brussels sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower, and 2 rows of salad greens.  The egg plant is squished at the far end and I'm not sure how it is still growing because I'm sure it doesn't see any sun.  But we are having fun growing all this stuff.

As soon as I said yes she chomped down.  She loves eating them right off the vine.  I'm surprised that we had enough for all of us to have for dinner last night.

I'm sure you noticed that I changed the look of my blog again.  I set up a new Meetup group last night and thought that I should update this site too.  Now I just have to set some dates and times to get together.

Tealight Cakes.

I first found these little delights on Splitcoaststampers website and decided to make some myself.  My friend liked them so much she asked me to teach a class on how to make them.  So I did.  I had the class at my house on June 26th.  I had 3 students, but we had so much fun.  I really enjoy sharing what I learn with others.  It makes me feel good and inspires me to continue sharing.  I thought I would share the Tealight Cakes that I have made so far.

If you remember, this is the first one I made.













This is the second one that I made.

Yes I added a Box, after all when you order a cake from the Bakery they come in a box. The box is cut out with the Cricut Tags, Bags, Boxes and more cartridge.  I love this cartridge.  I used CTMH Textured CS for the box.

This cake took me all day.  If you look closely you will see tiny rosebuds around the base of the cake.  My daughter told me that I was crazy and I should not do that again.

This is the top of the cake and it has curly q's that I made by cutting a sliver of paper and raping it around a strait pin.













This is the third cake.

This one didn't take quite as long to make but close.

I took Daisy White CS and spritz it with a mix of Create a shade Pearl paint and water.  Then embossed it with Cuttlebug's Swiss Dots embossing folder.  I punched out the tiny flowers from Lilac Mist CS and layered three to make them look like roses. I used the same punch to make the leaves out of Olive CS.

I used the SU Sizzilits butterfly cut and embossing die on the Daisy white CS that I spritzed.

I also used SU's Border punch and added pearls to the border and pierced tiny holes in each of the scallops on the bottom edge, like a doily might have.

Here is the forth Tealight cake I made.

I cut this box with holes in the sides and tied an organdy ribbon for a handle.

Here you can see that I used the Create a Shade Pearl paint again only I added a drop of Hollyhock ink to it and painted the stamen that I put inside the white Roses.  I also used a Daisy flower punch and created my own leaves.





These little cakes are so much fun and the battery lasts 120 hours.  Can you believe that?

My camera was not working the day I held the class or I would share the pictures of the cakes the ladies made.

Corner Bookmarks.

I like to look on splitcoaststampers.com to see the newest cards and other items they have.  Last week I saw a tutorial for a corner bookmark.  Click here for the Corner Bookmark Tutorial.  I just had to make a few.  Awhile back I found pansies made with the SU butterfly punch so I thought I would combine both.







I punched the butterflies out of the Veranda papers and sponged the edges with Chocolate ink.  I added the details to the pansies with a black ink pen.  I added Stardust Glitz to the center of the pansy and then added a colonial white bigger brad to the center.


I loved how it turned out.




I wanted to make a card that included a corner bookmark and this is how it turned out.



Aspirations is one of my all time favorite stamp sets and the Unforgettable paper pack is so pretty.


























As you know I couldn't stop there so here are the others I made.







I still think I should add leaves to this one.

This one you can use it either way this is the front side.  I used Cuttlebug embossing borders and then sanded the raised images.




And this is the back side of the same bookmark.














I made a few cards while I was playing around too.  Here is the Butterfly card, it is 5 1/2 x 4 1/4.

















Then I made some easel cards, these are both 3" x 3".  I used the SU Butterfly punch to make the butterfly pansies and the new SU Sizzilit die that embosses and cuts the smaller butterflies.  I also used the SU Border punches.  I wish CTMH would add punches to our Idea Books.

I showed these to my husband who collects books and he said he wouldn't use them in his books because the brads are too bulky and would damage the pages in the books.  So I don't have to worry about him running off with any of my bookmarks.  I do think his mother would love to have one though.   I will save a few of the things I made for another post later on.

Broccoli Crowns.

I went out to the garden tonight and I picked 2 Broccoli crowns.  Then I went to the Blueberry bushes and picked a handful of blueberries.  The garden sure likes this heat we are having.  The corn stalks are as tall as I am now and just a couple days ago they weren't to my shoulder.  We have pea pods on but they aren't ready yet.  Our bell peppers have blooms and so does our jalapeños.  Our squash and melons are blooming too.

I went to Radio Shack and bought a new battery for my camera tonight.  So once it is fully charged I will be able to take pictures of all the items I have been making.  I really should be making more stuff but it is hard to get motivated with all this heat.  I'm not sure how long this heat advisory is supposed to last but I am ready for some cooler weather.

I had a friend of Dawn's & Charlie's look at my A/C in the van today and he thinks he fixed it but he is coming over tomorrow to check and see.  It sure was nice to have A/C again.  He suggested that we drive it around for a while to make sure the stuff he put in circulates through the system, so I took the kids to Cruisers for Ice Cream cones.  They all wanted the Flavor Burst kind and wouldn't you know it the machine stopped after 1 cone.  So then we all decided to get the regular swirls since that machine was working and it too stopped working when it was my turn to order.  Wouldn't you know it was going to work that way.  Dawn was nice and shared hers with me.

I hope to have pictures to post tomorrow.  In the meantime thanks for letting me share my stories with you.

Convention starts tomorrow, in Washington D.C.

When I found out that this years Convention was going to be held in Washington D.C. I wanted to go, mainly to see the sites.  They do spoil you at convention with all the new products they give out.  Maybe convention 2012 will be held closer to us and I will be able to go to that one.  If I were smart I would set aside money each month  just for going to convention.  I will wait to see where they are holding the next one before I make that decision.














I would love to see The Smithsonian Museums 


















and the Jefferson Memorial and I will get to some day.







We have someone on the inside, who is giving us tid-bits of information about some of the changes that are coming and so far the changes are sounding real good.  I can't tell you what I have heard yet, but keep watching my blog and I will reveal them as soon as I can.

I went to Radio Shack yesterday to get a new battery charger for my camera but was told that any charger with the right connection on the end will work.  So I came home and found a charger with the right connector and plugged it in.  It charged just enough to flash the picture on the screen and then gives me the message  "Replace the battery pack."  So I am off to Radio Shack to get a new battery and see if that will fix my problem.  Hopefully I will be able to share some of the things that I have been making.

Last Thursday I had a small class at my house, and we made Tea-light cakes.  I wish my camera would have worked because the ladies made some very cute cakes.  The ladies said they had a great time and wanted to come again sometime.  They live in California, so it will probably be next year.
